In this engaging 90 minute program,
parents, guardians, older siblings, and youth-adjacent caring adults will learn how to engage in ongoing communication with their young person about sex and sexuality. Studies show that having ongoing, shame-free, and developmentally appropriate conversations about sexuality through the life span can decrease adolescent risk-taking behaviors, enhance a young person’s sexual self-concept, and reduce the effects of stigma and shame in their sexual development. The presentation includes a combination of lecture and group activities that focus on the following topics: assessing one’s own values and beliefs, developmentally appropriate conversation starters, communication tools, and linking sex and technology. Participants will also have the opportunity to role play communication skills using real-life scenarios and engage in meaningful open discussion.
