Art Exhibit: Polyhedral, at KSL by Camilo Villalvilla
Camilo Villalvilla was born in Cuba, a geographical but also political island, in a controlled society, apparently stagnant in the 60s, where the "Cold War" remains "hot" and the implausible is an everyday thing. Those stigmas are reflected in his art. He is interested in moving ideas, disturbing the viewer and making them participate in possible interpretations. He is also interested in the autonomy of images, in the importance of education, the relationship of opposites, the complexity of communication. Lately, he is obsessed with the geometry of nature.
He has shown his art internationally as well as in several galleries in Cuba. He has been a part of the following exhibitions, among others:
- "The Cuban Art Space" -Center for Cuban Studies, New York
- "The 8th Floor" -New York, USA
- "What is Cuban art?" -Oglethorpe University Museum of Arts, Atlanta, USA
- "The Stirling Club" -Turnberry Towers, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
-"1st Biennial Drawing the Americas" -Tijuana, Mexico, with Rafael Cauduro.
Camilo has illustrated more than a dozen newspapers and magazines and several books, and has received several awards. Some of this work can be seen in collections from different countries such as: the United States (collection: Jamy Rodman, Las Vegas; collection: Donald Rubin, New York), Germany, Portugal, Greece, Italy, France, Spain (collection: Lucila de la Cruz, Barcelona), Great Britain, Mexico, Canada, Paraguay, Puerto Rico, Poland, Holland, Belgium, Australia, Norway, Ireland, Sweden, New Zealand, Slovenia, Belgium, Chile (Fund for the arts and heritage issues of Wide Beach University, Valparaiso), and Cuba.
