Site Information: McGregor Home is a non-profit senior care organization dedicated to meeting the changing needs of Cleveland's older adults throughout Northeast Ohio and Cuyahoga County. McGregor serves older adults by providing residential care services on their campus and daytime activities. Volunteers will work with residents and daytime visitors living with Alzheimer's disease or individuals living with neurocognitive disorders. McGregor Home aims to provide future healthcare professionals the opportunity to: value the importance of maintaining the dignity and integrity of all clients; develop interpersonal communication skills to engage clients effectively; build a level of comfort in interacting with clients who live with dementia; amd engage in reflective practice and connect this experience to their field of study.
Service Information: Volunteers are paired with older adult residents and visitors to assist as they participate in various activities. Training is provided, and prior experience is not required.
Time Commitment: This site requires a weekly commitment for one summer semester and takes place on Saturdays from 12:45 - 3:15 p.m., which includes transportation time. Transportation is provided in the CCEL van by a CCEL Student Leader. Registered students commit to volunteering on Saturdays from May 23 through August 8. No volunteering on June 20 or July 5.
