Details

Site Details: Food Strong is working to create and maintain an Urban Farm to further enhance our shared mission of improving food access, environmental sustainability, nutrition education, and entrepreneurship. We will maintain and beautify the grounds, making necessary repairs and aesthetic improvements on the property, all while training community members in construction, landscaping, carpentry, and related fields. Superior Farm will be a space that engages and beautifies the neighborhood while improving access to fresh, local foods, workforce development opportunities, and resources. All of this will be done while repurposing and resting materials to foster a circular economy, reduce waste, and maximize efficiency. The Farm will be a great asset for Cleveland and all of Northeast Ohio.

Service Details: Hands-on farm work may include: Planting, harvesting, weeding, mulching, composting; Garden bed maintenance and light construction; General site care and organization; Seed and tool sorting for lighter tasks. All tasks are guided by staff or trained volunteers. No experience is required.

When + Where: Registered volunteers will meet at the CCEL office (TVUC #165) at 4:45 pm and return to campus by 7:15 pm. Transportation is provided to the site in a CCEL van driven by a CCEL Student Leader.

Waiting List + Cancellation Policy:
  • If registration is full, please join the wait list as you will receive an email update if a spot becomes available. If you are still on the wait list at the time of the event, you are welcome to stop by CCEL at that time to see if any last-minute spots open.

  • If you are no longer able to attend, please delete your registration in Campus Groups as soon as possible. If your cancellation is within 48 hours, please email serves@case.edu as soon as possible to inform CCEL staff - less than 24 hours will be considered an unexcused absence.
  • Not notifying our staff of absences or too many absences in one semester may impact your ability to participate in future CCEL Serves programs.

Accessibility: CCEL is committed to providing all students with opportunities to take full advantage of our programs. Our staff recognizes that students with documented disabilities may require reasonable accommodations in order to achieve this objective. If you are interested in taking part in a specific project but have questions related to accommodations and/or the accessibility of a site, please contact the office of Disability Resources (216.368.5230 or disability@case.edu), and they will work with a representative from our office to answer your questions.
