Details

Returning Civic Engagement Scholars who have previously participated in the Scholars program are required to attend one of the below Undesign the Redline exhibit tours in September or October to satisfy their required Fall Kick-Off component of the Scholars program. Undesign the Redline is “an interactive exhibit exploring the history of race, class and U.S. housing policy, and how this legacy of inequity and exclusion continues to shape our communities.” The exhibit is meant to build on students’ understanding of social justice by examining the root causes of community issues they are working on at their service sites in order to explore systemic ways to address these issues and create social change. Before visiting the exhibit, please watch the following short video that overviews the definition of redlining: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33RvaOZ-HzY

Returning Scholars will attend this exhibit in groups of up to 30 people, led by CCEL Student Executive Council members, via public transit on the RTA healthline (please bring your student ID with a valid RTA sticker for this year attached; if you were ineligible to receive a RTA sticker this year, contact adrian.griffin@case.edu). You will assemble as a group in Thwing Atrium at the start time listed below before boarding the bus (note: the meeting location is TVUC food court for the 10/13 date). The timeframes below account for travel time to/from campus, so you will be back to campus by the end time listed below. Depending on the date you select, you will either travel with the group to the YWCA of Greater Cleveland or Trinity Episcopal Cathedral.

Please register as soon as possible for ONE of the below events. If your preferred date is full, please join the waitlist. If you are unable to make any of the below times due to academic conflicts or if you are uncomfortable attending the exhibit, please contact adrian.griffin@case.edu as soon as possible.

If you have not already done so, please make sure to complete the Civic Engagement Scholars application by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, September 22 in addition to registering for this event in order to officially become enrolled in the program: http://cglink.me/s19403
