In the 1950s the community had a population of approximately 40,000 residents now just over 5000 call the neighborhood home. Many parcels are vacant, while low-income residents, and seniors struggle to maintain their homes.

Service Description:  Volunteers will remove over-grown vegetation, trash, and debris from what was once a thriving neighborhood retail corridor along a section of Quincy Ave. Volunteering for this effort will not only beautify the streetscape it will also uplift the neighborhood and improve the quality of life for the residents of Fairfax. Please note: long pants, long sleeves, and closed-toe/closed-heel shoes (no sandals, clogs, or flip flops) are required. The project may also include standing on your feet for the duration of the service.

When/Where: Registered volunteers will meet at the CCEL office (TVUC #165) at 8:45 am. and return to campus by 1:30 pm. Volunteers will travel together to the site by bus as led by a CCEL Student Leader.
