ASA Data Fest
The 2023 ASA DataFest will be held at Nord Hall 356, from April 14 to April 16, 2023. DataFest is a celebration of data in which teams of undergraduates work over a weekend to find and share meaning in a large, rich, and complex data set. Job and Internship Opportunities
Immediate Paid Positions for CDS Students: short courses on Cloud, BigData, ML, and Visualization
(1) Cloud computing and BigData: cloud computing, bigdata, structured/unstructured data management, NoSQL - key value stores, document store, graph databases, working with unstructured data with ML tools.
(2) Machine Learning: Statistical inference; Introductions to supervised, unsupervised, semi-supervised, reinforcement learning, & deep learning - using pytorch.
(3) Visualization: Concepts, methods and applications of pattern discovery, scalable pattern discovery on massive data
All of these will be developed for the cloud and will be hands-on using python and are paid positions.

Scientific Programmer II - School of Biomedical Informatics
As a frontend programmer, the candidate will be responsible for developing user interfaces and interactive features for healthcare applications. The ideal candidate should be proficient in JavaScript and have experience with the React framework. In this role, the candidate will collaborate with machine learning researchers to build end-to-end healthcare applications that integrate machine learning algorithms into the user interface.
This will require strong communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing cutting-edge healthcare technology that has the potential to improve patient outcomes and transform the healthcare industry. Electrical Engineer Position, NEOEx Systems, Inc. (Attachment)
Full Time – 40 hours per week basis, salary with benefits – Elyria, OH
This position is for an electrical engineer that will integrate electrical and power components for ground support equipment for fueling aircraft and for microgrid systems that will include energy generation with photovoltaic cells, energy storage using battery energy storage systems, and the controls to manage power conversion and distribution. In addition, the electrical engineer will support the development of electric flight vehicles through the use of design, analytical, and experimental skills to support company research and product development activities. CSE Funding for Summer 2023 SOURCE Research, Applications Open
CSE is partnering with the SOURCE Office, which supports undergraduate student research, to support opportunities for CSE undergraduate students to pursue paid summer research. For Summer 2023, CSE is able to fund up to 9 CSE undergraduate students funded summer research opportunities through the SOURCE STEM and SURES programs – in addition to the slots funded by SOURCE.

ICICLE Educational Fellows Program, Call for 2023 Fellows
The ICICLE Educational Fellowship program’s goal is to engage graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and early-career educators and researchers in career building experiences and opportunities at the nexus of artificial intelligence, cyberinfrastructure, and education and training while furthering the educational and outreach objectives of the institute. The 2023 program theme is Democratizing AI: making AI more accessible to a wider range of potential users, engaging a wide range of people in the design of AI, and democratizing the benefits of AI.
The educational fellow will have an opportunity to work on real-world challenges of high importance to the institute. The educational fellow will be matched with content experts in ICICLE, allowing access to situational context and domain experts, while working on an activity of their design. ICICLE Educational Fellows will receive a stipend of $6000 and as well as expense-paid travel to the cohort building orientation and to the ICICLE All Hands meeting.

Paid Teaching Fellowship Abroad for STEM PhDs (Attachment)
Are you a recent or soon-to-be PhD graduate? Would you like to spend up to six months making a difference by developing and teaching science curriculum abroad?
Science Corps offers fully paid fellowships to upcoming and recent PhD graduates (up to four years after graduation) to help build science capacity at one of their host locations in the Philippines, Morocco, Bangladesh, and India. They are also currently developing new site partnerships, and are open to a fellow interested in working on site development.
Fellows travel to partner institutions to develop science curriculum, teach in secondary school classrooms, train teachers, and build community-based research projects. In addition to building science capacity at these host locations, we also aim to offer fellows a life-changing experience. They are given the opportunity to spend time in beautiful locations, immerse themselves in different cultures, and learn from their host educators–all while making positive contributions to these communities. Should travel continue to be restricted, fellows will have the opportunity to visit the host site they work with once it is safe to do so.
They are presently interested in recruiting immediately for fellowships starting within the next year. Zuckerman STEM Postdoctoral Scholarship in Israel (Attachment)
The Zuckerman STEM Leadership program offers significant funding for selected postdoctoral scholars interested in achieving STEM research in Israel. Scholarship includes US $63,000 per academic year for up to two years the benefit of achieving STEM research in respective fields under the supervision of world-renowned faculty.

The Nordson BUILDS Scholarship Program is now open to applicants for the 2023-24 academic year!
Last year, over 100 students nationwide were awarded Nordson BUILDS Scholarships which range from $2,000 to $10,000. Plus, scholarship recipients get exclusive primary access to internship opportunities and employment opportunities after graduation.

Panel discussion on ChatGPT: “Considerations for Teaching and Learning”
Members of the Case Western Reserve University community are invited to join the University Center for Innovation in Teaching and Education (UCITE) for a panel decision on ChatGPT Wednesday, March 22, from 3 to 4 p.m. in Tinkham Veale University Center, Ballroom C.
Panelists will discuss capabilities, limitations and implications of AI/Chat GPT technology for teaching and learning. Register to attend this session.

Doctoral Fitting
A doctoral fitting event will be held Friday, March 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Samson Pavilion, Room 113.
Doctoral fitting events are open to all professional and doctoral students (MD, DMD, DMA, PhD, DNP, DM, JD, SJD). At the doctoral fittings, professional and doctoral degree candidates can register to participate in commencement ceremonies and have their regalia measurements taken. Representatives from the University Bookstore and the commencement office will be on hand to assist students.
Doctoral students planning to purchase custom regalia must attend a doctoral fitting event or visit the bookstore to have additional measurements taken; custom regalia orders cannot be placed over the phone. The deadline for all orders is Monday, April 24. Learn more about doctoral fittings.
“Fireside Chats with Leading Ladies”
The Clinical and Translational Science Collaborative (CTSC) of Cleveland will collaborate with several local healthcare organizations to host a four-part “Fireside Chats with Leading Ladies” series in March in honor of Women’s History Month.
During the series, women will share their journeys to leadership, how they elevate research as a priority at their institutions, and ways they’ve amplified the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion—professionally and personally—through their position of power and influence (and how you can, too).

March 17: Cynthia Kubu, neuropsychologist, associate director of the Neuroethics Program at Center for Neurological Restoration at Cleveland Clinic, and vice dean of the Office of Faculty Affairs and Human Resources at CWRU School of Medicine; and
March 31: Jill Dietrich Mellon, executive director and CEO of the VA Northeast Ohio Health Care.
