June 20: CWRU’s inaugural Black Business Expo
Case Western Reserve University’s Office for Diversity, Equity and Inclusive Engagement hopes to play a role in helping grow Black businesses with its inaugural Black Business Expo, which will run concurrently with CWRU’s Juneteenth celebration. Open to the public from 12:30 to 6 p.m. in the Tinkham Veale University Center ballroom, the Black Business Expo will showcase Black businesses from around Greater Cleveland. Juneteenth Celebration
The School of Medicine’s Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusive Excellence and Office of the Dean invite members of the Case Western Reserve University community to a Juneteenth celebration Friday, June 23, from noon to 2 p.m. in the Biomedical Research Building lounge.
Gregory Hall, Founder and Board President of the National Institute for African American Health, will give a hybrid presentation titled “Urban Health Care Equity” from noon to 1 p.m. Hall will discuss ways higher education institutes and their hospital affiliates can train faculty, staff and students to better understand the root causes of inequalities in healthcare and how to take action to dismantle inequities in healthcare delivery.
Following the presentation, guests are united to a reception to enjoy live jazz music by the Good Vibes Ban, poetry and a sampling of soul food prepared by Cleveland’s own Chef Eric Wells (Skye LaRae’s Culinary Services). Register to attend the event.
LGBTQ+ Wine & Cheese Social
The School of Medicine’s Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusive Excellence will host a LGBTQ+ Wine & Cheese Social Monday, June 26, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at The Jolly Scholar. This event is open to graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and faculty and staff members to celebrate Pride Month. Register to attend this event.

TA Position at Weatherhead School of Management
Weatherhead School of Management is looking for a motivated student with a strong background in Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) to serve as the Teaching Assistant (TA) in a graduate-level course on Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence in Business Analytics (BUAI 446) in Fall 2023.
This course covers principles, algorithms, and applications of ML and DL from a business analytics perspective. Specifically, it covers Deep Learning models such as Multilayer Perceptrons (MLP), regularization methods to combat overfitting, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) for image classification, Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) for sequence data, as well as other supervised and unsupervised Machine Learning methods such as Ridge and Lasso regression, bias-variance trade-off, cross-validation and bootstrapping, topic modeling, bagging, boosting, and stacking.

They hold hundreds of patents for designing products including the Swiffer, a wind resistant propane heater, the Febreze air duster, and the Schick electric shaver, just to name a few. Nottingham Spirk is looking to hire 2 CWRU students this fall! One co-op is a Firmware co-op and the second is an electrical engineering co-op.
They prefer candidates who have completed a minimum of 3 years of a BS degree program by August 2023. Masters students are welcome to apply, too.

Parade the Circle at University Circle
One of the largest cultural events in Cleveland returns for a day of bright, extravagant fun! Large puppets and huge costumes mingle as if from Wonderland. Painted faces bob between handmade masks and vibrant music ties it all together in an artistic bow for this year’s theme, Dragonfly.

The Office of Undergraduate Admission is seeking energetic and friendly students who are passionate about Case Western Reserve University to provide tours to prospective high school students and their families.
Applicants should have basic knowledge about the university, strong communication skills and be passionate about CWRU. These students will also have the opportunity to support in-person and virtual events hosted by the office to engage future students and participate in other recruitment efforts.
Training and meetings are paid. The office is looking for students who can commit to weekly shifts throughout the summer.
