Ecstasy and Contemplation
17th-Century German Music
Experience the extraordinary blend of trumpets, voice, and strings from a transformative era of music. Rooted in the "new music" movement that emerged in Italy at the dawn of the 17th century, German and Austrian composers forged their own distinct musical path, using innovative instruments and techniques that defined the sound of their time. The program features works by Dietrich Buxtehude, Heinrich Biber, Romanus Weichlein, and others.
Part of the beloved Chamber Music in the Galleries series, this concert showcases talented young artists and faculty from the Case Western Reserve University Historical Performance Practice Program, the Cleveland Institute of Music, and The Music Settlement. Each performance offers a unique and intimate experience, with repertoire inspired by the artwork on display—creating a captivating dialogue between music and art.
