Data Governance Committee March 2021 Updates

Hello Data Governance Committee Members and Campus Stakeholders,

Technical Status Updates that pertain to the Data Governance program:

• Tableau Implementation: 
  • Three servers: Enterprise (data.case.edu); Health (healthdata.case.edu); Dental School (dentaldata.case.edu). Enterprise and Health are deployed; Dental will be deployed in March/April. 
  • Qlik and BusinessObjects reports are being deployed in Tableau in batches from Feb-April; existing users with permissions will be notified and onboarded when reports are deployed.
• Collibra implementation: Testing connection to Tableau for cataloging enterprise dashboards that have been deployed.

Discussion of Data Governance Policy Outline

• Multiple, smaller policies for ease of management
• Separate group will convene to discuss Data Classification layers as it relates to security.
• Policy #1 Roles & Responsibilities
• Discussion around existing data access workflows for various sources, SIS, PeopleSoft Financials.
• Discussed potential proof of concept for this policy.

• Continue with developing data governance policies (roles and responsibilities, data access).

Benchmarks Met to Date:
People:

• 14 Committee members, representing at least 13 offices and departments at the university

Technology:

• Four technology solutions identified and procured (Amazon Web Services Data Lake, Collibra, Tableau, and Talend)
• Implementation of two of three Tableau servers at the enterprise level completed

Processes/Policies:

• Committee charter approved (includes guiding principles)
