Congolese Vigil: A Celebration of Memory and Resistance
Details
Join EVOKE for a powerful vigil honoring the lives lost and communities devastated in the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Eastern Congo.
Since October 18, 1996—the start of the First Congo War—millions of Congolese people have been killed, displaced, or forgotten in a conflict driven by foreign interference, resource exploitation, and political betrayal. This event is not only a space for mourning but a declaration of remembrance, resilience, and resistance.
Through prayer, live Congolese music, traditional food, and open dance, this gathering will honor the pain Congolese people have endured while celebrating Congolese survival, culture, and strength.
The vigil is also a fundraiser:
-
Half of all proceeds will go toward supporting the Swahili congregation’s effort to purchase a van for local refugee families.
-
The other half will be sent to refugee camps in Ituri, Kivu, and Goma—regions at the heart of the conflict.
All are welcome. Come grieve, learn, celebrate, and stand in solidarity with the Congolese people.
