About Us
At the Case Western Reserve University Indian Film Club, our mission is to create a vibrant and inclusive community that celebrates the rich tapestry of Indian cinema, culture, and music. Our purpose is to provide a platform for students to come together and experience the magic of Indian cinema in a lively and engaging environment and learn more about the complexities of our culture. We strive to foster a sense of unity and cultural appreciation by organizing screenings, celebrations, advocacy events (for social justice-based movies), and cinema-analysis workshops that showcase the diversity and dynamism of Indian cinema. Through these activities, we aim to bridge gaps, break cultural barriers, and create lasting connections among students from various backgrounds. Our mission is not only to entertain but also to educate. We are committed to promoting a deeper understanding of the historical, social, and artistic aspects of Indian cinema, fostering an appreciation for the industry's evolution, its reflection of the artistic reverberation and progression of a post-colonial country, and its impact on global popular culture. For example, we may do so by holding workshops to examine the link between Indian immigrant identity and Indian cinema. At the heart of our mission is the belief that Indian films transcend borders and have the power to bring people together. We aspire to provide a space where students can immerse themselves in the colors, music, and narratives of Indian cinema, cultivating a sense of joy, curiosity, and cultural exchange. We are sure that this club will bring happiness to the significant Indian (Asian) – American population at CWRU and students from the many other backgrounds it can enrich. As we embark on this journey, we envision the Indian Film Club as a place where creativity thrives, friendships blossom, and a sense of belonging is nurtured. Through our events and activities, we aim to create memories that resonate long after the music fades, leaving an indelible mark on the cultural landscape of our university.
