GSC Mental Health Week - November 17-23, 2024
Throughout the week, we’ll offer events, resources, and discussions designed to create a supportive space where graduate and professional students can connect, decompress, and explore strategies for managing stress and maintaining balance.

Mental Health Matters Town Hall
This event will discuss stigmas around mental health, as well as coping strategies. There will also be a conversation on the resources available and how to find them. Self-care strategies will be discussed, and participants are encouraged to come up with strategies they can use in the future. Free food will also be provided!

Think Forum - An Evening with Billy Collins
Billy Collins is an American phenomenon. No poet since Robert Frost has managed to combine high critical acclaim with such broad popular appeal. His work has appeared in a variety of periodicals including The New Yorker, The Paris Review, and The American Scholar. Collins has published twelve collections of poetry that has led to numerous awards including the Mark Twain Award for Humor in Poetry. Collins was named New York State Poet Laureate from 2004 to 2006 after serving as the Poet Laureate of the United States from 2001-2003. Collin's newest book, Water, Water: Poems, will be released in November. The event is free and open to the campus community but registration required. The Office of Residence Life is now accepting applications for its 2025-2026 Graduate Staff positions! Interested in gaining professional experience and skills that will assist you beyond your time as a graduate student? Would you like to be able to work and earn money while you're earning your graduate degree? Would you like to make an impact on students and the residential community at CWRU? If so, apply to become a member of the Graduate Staff within Residence Life! The Office of Residence Life has two graduate staff positions: the Assistant Residential Community Director role and the Graduate Resident Director role. Both positions are 10-month live-in roles that support the creation and facilitation of an integrated residential learning environment, working through the mission and goals of the Office of Residence Life and the Division of Student Affairs at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU). Immersed in the student community, both the ARCD and GRD positions actively manage the learning experience at both the community and individual level, monitoring and supporting students' holistic academic, social, and personal development. UNIV401: College Teaching Preparation
UCITE and the School of Graduate Studies invite graduate students and postdocs who are planning a career in the Academy to sign up for UNIV401 - College Teaching Preparation, formerly known as "Advanced Professional Development for University Teaching". This zero-credit seminar is aimed at introducing students to the context and practice of teaching and learning in higher education. Topics will include (but are not limited to): Understanding by Design, writing measurable learning objectives, developing a course syllabus, and inclusive teaching. Participants will completely weekly reading, as well as respond to a weekly journal/discussion board post.
Each student will be provided with the course textbook, courtesy of UCITE and Graduate Studies. If you are a graduate student, you can register for the Spring 2025 offering of this course on the Student Information System (SIS); postdocs need to reach out to gradstudies@case.edu to register. Questions should be directed to univ401@case.edu.
