Thwing Study Over
Looking for the perfect break as you gear up for finals? Thwing Study Over (TSO) is the ultimate tradition to enjoy food, fun, and friends before diving into exams (or before the semester is over). Join us on December 8, 5-10pm, at Thwing Center. Tickets are available for 100 graduate students only, and cost $3. Grab them before they are gone!

December General Assembly (GA) Meeting
The next GSC General Assembly (GA) meeting is on Monday, December 2, 5:30pm - 6:30pm, at the Toepfer Room at Adelbert Hall (second-floor conference room). All graduate students are welcome to attend. Graduate Student Council Representatives (Reps) are expected to attend all GA meetings.

Therapy Dogs at KSL
Kelvin Smith Library will host a visit with therapy dogs on Monday, December 2nd, from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the first floor. Build a study break into your day, and stop by the library to visit with a few furry friends! Therapy dogs are meant to provide affection, comfort, and support to those who need it.

UNIV401: College Teaching Preparation
UCITE and the School of Graduate Studies invite graduate students and postdocs who are planning a career in the Academy to sign up for UNIV401 - College Teaching Preparation, formerly known as "Advanced Professional Development for University Teaching". This zero-credit seminar is aimed at introducing students to the context and practice of teaching and learning in higher education. Topics will include (but are not limited to): Understanding by Design, writing measurable learning objectives, developing a course syllabus, and inclusive teaching. Participants will completely weekly reading, as well as respond to a weekly journal/discussion board post.
Each student will be provided with the course textbook, courtesy of UCITE and Graduate Studies. If you are a graduate student, you can register for the Spring 2025 offering of this course on the Student Information System (SIS); postdocs need to reach out to gradstudies@case.edu to register. Questions should be directed to univ401@case.edu.

Think Forum - An Evening with Billy Collins
Billy Collins is an American phenomenon. No poet since Robert Frost has managed to combine high critical acclaim with such broad popular appeal. His work has appeared in a variety of periodicals, including The New Yorker, The Paris Review, and The American Scholar. Collins has published twelve collections of poetry that have led to numerous awards, including the Mark Twain Award for Humor in Poetry. Collins was named New York State Poet Laureate from 2004 to 2006 after serving as the Poet Laureate of the United States from 2001-2003. Collin's newest book, Water, Water: Poems, will be released in November. The event is free and open to the campus community, but registration is required. Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at the Maltz Performing Arts Center at 7:30 pm.

The Office of Residence Life is now accepting applications for its 2025-2026 Graduate Staff positions! Interested in gaining professional experience and skills that will assist you beyond your time as a graduate student? Would you like to be able to work and earn money while you're earning your graduate degree? Would you like to make an impact on students and the residential community at CWRU? If so, apply to become a member of the Graduate Staff within Residence Life! The Office of Residence Life has two graduate staff positions: the Assistant Residential Community Director role and the Graduate Resident Director role. Both positions are 10-month live-in roles that support the creation and facilitation of an integrated residential learning environment, working through the mission and goals of the Office of Residence Life and the Division of Student Affairs at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU). Immersed in the student community, both the ARCD and GRD positions actively manage the learning experience at both the community and individual level, monitoring and supporting students' holistic academic, social, and personal development.
