Case Western Reserve University’s Anatomy Camp is an immersive educational program run by medical student volunteers. Anatomy Camp was designed with the primary goal of igniting curiosity and passion for STEM, more specifically in the field of medicine, among students from underserved middle and high schools in Cleveland, Ohio. We aim to expose students to various aspects of medicine including physical diagnosis, simulated patient interviewing, and anatomy of the human body through a virtual reality technology called HoloLens. We also inspire and encourage students to pursue careers in healthcare, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds, provide hands-on learning opportunities and access to educational resources that may be limited in their regular school settings, and foster mentorship relationships between the high school students and medical student volunteers.

When you volunteer for Anatomy Camp, you gain hands-on teaching experience in a fun environment. You'll have the chance to share your knowledge and passion for medicine with middle and high school students. This enhances the teaching skills you will one day use for patients and can deepen your own understanding of medical concepts.

Anatomy Camp is also an opportunity to engage in outreach efforts for underprivileged schools, helping to inspire the next diverse generation of medical professionals and STEM enthusiasts. Volunteers get to make a real impact in the community.

Volunteers also get the opportunity to briefly engage in public speaking, answering questions about medical school life. Participating in the educational sessions can improve your communication skills and boost your confidence, preparing you for future patient interactions and professional presentations.

We send out regular event reminders and detailed information about upcoming events to ensure volunteers never miss an opportunity to participate.

When you volunteer, you will engage in:
Mock IQ Sessions: Interactive sessions where students work through clinical cases, promoting critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Hololens/Anatomy Sessions: Utilizing our virtual reality platform to provide a hands-on learning experience about human anatomy and physiology. (The kids love this!!)
Q&A Sessions (Med Students on Truth Serum): An informal and candid discussion where medical students answer questions about their daily lives and experiences in medical school.

Our goal is to connect medical students through rock climbing in a fun, inclusive, and welcoming environment. We organize bouldering and top-rope activities at local climbing gyms. No climbing experience is required to participate and we encourage students of all skill levels to join us on our climbing outings.

Case Med Pride will aim to foster community among LGBTQ+ individuals associated with the Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) School of Medicine (SOM). We will serve as advocates for social change within our SOM and our greater communities. We will offer educational seminars and lectures to further educate all members of the medical community in treating their eventual gender and sexual minority patients.
Some of these events and projects will include:
- Advocate initiatives for sociopolitical change within CWRU, Cuyahoga County, the State
of Ohio, and the nation.
- Social events to foster community among all medical students associated with CWRU
SOM or the Lerner College of Medicine.
- Lectures by medical providers on topics relevant to LGBTQ+ health.

Mission
The Health Advocacy Organization (HAO) aims to foster skills training and community engagement to develop the next generation of health advocates. We bring greater visibility to health disparities and drive health policy that promotes change through activities such as elective classes, voter registration, and advocating for health reform at various levels.

Membership Benefits
The organization meets its objective in part by leading the HAO electives at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. These electives were created by a group of student-advocates beginning in 2017. These courses will provide in-depth education and practical skills training for students who want to advocate for structural improvements to the health of our society. Outside of these electives, HAO provides unique outreach and advocacy opportunities like Day of Advocacy, mentorship, research, and service project opportunities.

Through this longitudinal curriculum, we hope to introduce students to how healthcare providers can advocate for patients and contribute to conversations about public health and broader policy. These electives will also help students expand their network of mentors and classmates who are interested in social justice advocacy so that they will be able to maintain and build upon the passion that led to their interest in medicine.

The Human Rights Initiative's (HRI) primary goal is to oversee the Asylum Clinic, which provides forensic documentation of the physical and psychological sequelae of torture and abuse experienced by individuals applying for asylum in the United States. The organization is guided by research from Physicians for Human Rights, which shows that inclusion of a medical affidavit in an asylum application significantly increases the likelihood of approval. HRI is a unique opportunity for medical student volunteers to learn about the profound nature of the struggles of asylum seekers and work directly with providers in the forensic examinations and legal affidavit preparation.

We offer scribing and other opportunities to volunteer with the Asylum Clinic, in order to support asylum seekers in the US facing deportation. We meet weekly to discuss client cases and will send out emails periodically to ask for scribes for medical and psychiatric evaluations.

1. To help medical students at The Case Western Reserve University School
of Medicine learn about the field of Internal Medicine.
2. To provide career planning information and resources for medical students
interested in Internal Medicine.
3. To facilitate shadowing and mentorship opportunities for medical students
interested in Internal Medicine.

Membership Benefits
Our events happen throughout the year and range from student/resident/doctor panels, to academic conferences, to offering resident mentors, to shadowing on the hospital wards. The majority of our events are geared to medical students in their first or second year.

JHWW recruits medical students to mentor a small group of high school students at the Cleveland School of Science and Medicine (John Hay High School) during a 10 week college essay writing workshop designed to help students brainstorm and write college essays.
