About Us

Our club serves as a bridge between the CWRU student body and local Hospice organizations. Hospice care provides compassionate, palliative support to individuals diagnosed with a terminal illness and an expected life expectancy of six months or less. Many in the Cleveland community face isolation during this challenging period, often due to family estrangement or other factors. Our goal as Hospice volunteers is to offer emotional support and companionship to the surrounding Cleveland community, affirming every person’s right to be seen, heard and cared for during their final days. The Hospice Volunteer Club will streamline the application process for prospective volunteers, provide transportation to onboarded volunteers, foster a tight-knit community in the form of group hospice trips and General Body meetings, and diversify hospice volunteer opportunities.

Members Benefits

1. Direct Partnership with Traditions Hospice: Through our partnership with Traditions Hospice, we have exclusive access to many hospices facilities in the Cleveland area, ensuring our members will have ample opportunities to volunteer. We have worked with Traditions Hospice to streamline the volunteer onboarding process, allowing our members to get involved in hospice volunteering as soon as possible. 2. Transportation to Hospice Facilities via CCEL Vans: Our club offers complementary transportation, which is typically a major struggle with hospice volunteering. We have multiple group trips each week to the various hospice facilities under Traditions Hospice's jurisdiction. These group trips greatly improves access to hospice volunteering for our members and gives them flexibility as to when they can volunteer. 3. Interactive GBs: Our club hosts general body meetings every 2-4 weeks. These meetings range from volunteer-focused hospice volunteer training to patient-focused blanket/card making. Our GBs engage our members in all aspects of hospice, educating them and giving them opportunities to get involved. 4. Supportive Community: We provide a network of fellow volunteers to interact with and learn from. From our group van trips to our GBs, there are plenty of chances to get to know other students interested in hospice.
