About Us
The purpose of the organization is to engage undergraduate students in furthering the mission statement of the My Sister’s Keeper parent organization. Their mission statement is “to offer unwavering support and transformative care services, fostering a strong sense of community and reigniting the indomitable spirit of womanhood” to empower women on their journey with cancer “propelling them towards a triumphant journey”. As we do so, we aim to educate our members about how to effectively teach health education, with a focus on cancer diagnosis and treatment, to women of underserved and underrepresented African American communities within Cleveland. My Sister’s Keeper CWRU Chapter will work to create educational content and reach out to “Sisters”, who have been impacted by a cancer diagnosis, to provide support and determine what resources can be allocated to aid them throughout their journey. We will use these guides to also further expand our outreach to the local Cleveland community to educate the general public on preventative measures and connect them to resources like where to get regular checkups. Throughout the year, we will continually communicate with the My Sister’s Keeper parent organization to provide support in furthering their mission– whether that entails raising money for care packages or contacting “Sisters” and determining what immediate needs they may have.
