His research concentrates largely on the history of psychiatry in Africa and the United States, and his most recent work, Electroconvulsive Therapy in America: The Anatomy of a Medical Controversy, is forthcoming from Routledge Press. He is a co-founder of the university’s Medical Humanities and Social Medicine initiative and contributed significantly to the development of the Medicine, Society, and Culture (MSC) concentration.
