Get involved in building the injection molder + GB#3 How to reuse plastic bags

 Events

Get involved in building the injection molder!
We've restructured our system for building the injection molder. We're splitting into groups of 2-4 to work on the various system parts. You can join us at the Thinkbox on Sundays at 4 PM, or with your group at a time that works for you.

You can check out the spreadsheet linked here to see a breakdown of tasks required for the completion of each part and subassembly.

Most of you should have completed your trainings, if not you can still get started and get the trainings you need as we go along. We've separated the machine into 10 subparts, each to be completed in small groups. The spreadsheet tabs show a detailed breakdown of the tasks, machines needed, and blueprints for each part. We're separating the machine build in this way so that you can work on your own time. We will still designate Sundays for build days, but if that doesn’t work for you you can work on your part whenever you'd like.

Here's how it'll work:

  • Check out the parts and steps and see which one interests you.
  • Let us know which part you want to work on, and if you have a group or want to join one.
  • We'll meet with you, give you the materials and go over the plans. This can happen on Sundays or we can set up a different time.
  • Over the next few weeks, you can work on your part, either with us on Sundays or whenever you or your group want to work.
  • When you’ve completed a step in your subparts tab write your name next to it and change the red square to green.
  • Each group will have a lead person to coordinate that group's tasks. Be sure to check in with your lead before working on a part.
  • We’ll meet altogether at 4 on Sundays to discuss progress and address questions. You can also join the GBs on alternating Wednesdays to discuss anything project-related.

Join us for our third GB meeting! We'll be showing two ways you can reuse plastic bags.
The meeting will be this Wednesday at 5:30 PM, in Thinkbox 227. We'll show you how you can turn a bag into strands of plastic for knitting, as well as iron them together to create a plastic sheet. Register on CampusGroups below to reserve your spot and dinner.

Register for an upcoming webinar from the Society of Plastics Engineers
SPE Cleveland has encouraged our members to participate in this webinar to learn about what the organization does, in anticipation of future collaboration with our club. You can register for free using the instructions in the flyer above. Melissa Kurtz, a Managing Engineer with The Madison Group, will be discussing the challenges surrounding sustainability and plastics.
