November Updates 2023

Latonya Shazor - Monday, November 6, 2023
 Events
Dear [FIRST_NAME],

Dear Provost Scholars, Families, Mentors & Stakeholders:

There is no programming on Tuesday, November 7, 2023.
Get out and vote!

Mentors, what an amazing first week of programming! Scholars from Ginn and Cleveland School of the Arts created mind maps by examining who they are, their aspirations, and action steps to reach their potential dreams. Thank you for helping them to self-reflect and unpack their desired outcomes in life.

Here are updates for the remainder of November:
November 7: Programming is cancelled due the closing of Cleveland Metropolitan School District and East Cleveland City Schools (for voting).

November 14: We ask that Mentors meet us directly at Sears Thinkbox located in the Richey Mixon Building, 11201 Cedar Ave., Cleveland, OH 44106. As scholars tour the creative space at Thinkbox, please encourage them to consider the ethical use of artificial intelligence in various design processes. We'll tour in two groups. Group one will work with mentors on designing their version of a self-driving car, while the other group tours the facility with their mentors (1 hour). Then, the groups will switch. Wear comfortable shoes, there's so much to explore at this free, community resource!

November 21: Provost Scholars will be challenged with writing a problem/solution essay and will need your support. The writing prompt is "If I could own a self-driving car, what problem would I solve in the world?" I'll provide a graphic organizer to help students through their thinking and mapping process. If time allows, they will begin incorporating their research into a Canva presentation.

November 28: Scholars will refine their essays and Canva presentations with support from mentors.

We're still recruiting Mentors, to help us expand our mentoring pool, please share this exciting news with your colleagues. I've attached a document that will be used to track data for a pre/post assessment, meaning that we'll help scholars complete the document in November and then again in May. I will print the conversational document and bring copies to Thinkbox next week. For any questions or concerns, reach out to Latonya Shazor at (216) 512-1747.

With kind regards,

The Provost Scholars Team
