At Case Western Reserve, we're committed to leveraging technology for the greater good. Last semester, an AI in Education Task Force began exploring AI integration in our educational processes, leading to the development of a five-year roadmap. This roadmap emphasizes promoting AI literacy, providing training, and expanding degree offerings.

To engage the community, we're piloting various AI initiatives this semester, starting with a faculty-focused lunch and learn series and a symposium. These events will showcase AI technologies used in classrooms, featuring speakers who will share program details, student feedback, and lessons learned. Faculty will have the opportunity to participate in Q&A sessions and live demos.

During this Lunch & Learn, Martha Wilson Schaffer, director of first-year writing and instructor of English in the College of Arts and Sciences will dialogue with her students as they describe their approach to using and thinking about AI text generators and how that affects their work. They will also share a few activities that have been particularly effective in helping students think critically and practically about AI.

Anthony Bucaro, associate professor of accountancy in the Weatherhead School of Management will describe the use of generative AI in two of his courses. In both courses, students are asked to think about how to communicate with Artificial Intelligence in an effective and efficient way - with a focus on prompt engineering in either a complex business problem or a basic programming exercise. One of Professor Bucaro's students will join the conversation to discuss his experience.
