Thrive: A Curricular Approach to Residence Life
*Queue the cartwheels* After 18 months of planning, we have launched our new curricular approach to Residence Life!

A Curricular Approach, Generally
As defined by Roompact, a curricular approach entails the use of educational and pedagogical practices adapted from the classroom into co-curricular student life contexts. Focused on student learning, all educational interventions and activities are designed to promote cumulative and successive learning toward a defined set of learning objectives.

For more information on the curricular approach, as defined by Roompact, take a look at this short "Explainer Video".

Thrive: Our Approach
Our priority for students’ learning in the residence halls is: by engaging in a residential experience that bridges living and learning, students will become curious individuals who embrace challenges and shape communities.

In support of this priority, our approach is rooted in Nancy K Schlossberg's (1984) Transition Theory and the Division of Student Affairs' Learning Domains: community engagement, cultural & human appreciation, problem solving, purpose & intentionality, and social & emotional competence.

Programs and other strategies (e.g., community meetings, dialogues, written communication, etc) supports students’ learning in one of the five domains. These strategies have been sequenced and scaffolded across years to meet the specific needs of each population we serve: first-year, second-year, and upperclass students.

To see more about the pieces that make up our curricular approach, take a look at the Thrive At-A-Glance attachment.
