Mission Students for Rare is a student-led chapter of the National Organization of Rare Disorders (NORD), and is dedicated to promoting research, innovation, awareness, and solidarity around rare diseases on the CWRU campus. Our mission is to engage students in meaningful ways by organizing events that highlight cutting-edge research, support interdisciplinary collaboration, and amplify the voices of those affected by rare diseases. Through awareness campaigns, innovation-focused programming, and patient storytelling events, we aim to create a campus culture that is informed, compassionate, and driven to make a difference. By centering our efforts at CWRU, Students for Rare empowers students to lead change and foster a more inclusive and informed environment for rare disease advocacy and understanding.
Membership BenefitsBecoming a member of Students for Rare allows members to engage in research-driven, awareness-focused, and advocacy-based efforts centered on rare diseases. Members can participate in events that highlight current research, promote innovation, and amplify the voices of patients within our campus community. The club also provides pathways to explore volunteer opportunities and connect with healthcare professionals, researchers, and advocates who work in rare disease fields. Students interested in expanding their involvement beyond campus can learn about national programs such as the NORD (National Organization for Rare Disorders) Student Ambassador Program and the NORD Scholarship for Rare Disease Scholars. Both of these programs support students pursuing rare disease advocacy, education, and research. Through these experiences, members will have the opportunity to grow academically, professionally, and personally while helping build a more informed and compassionate campus.
