PhD trainers participation in one mentor training session annually is a requirement by the SOM. Mentor training is open to all CWRU Faculty especially those who advise and/or provide mentorship in a laboratory setting to PhD students and postdocs.
Our May 2026 mentor training sessions will be facilitated by Damian Junk, PhD, covering a discussion on assessing mentees' understanding. The format will be a short introduction to the topic followed by a group discussion.
Learning objectives:
Mentors will have the knowledge and skills to:
1. Assess their mentees' understanding of core concepts and processes
2. Identify various reasons for lack of understanding, including expert-novice differences
3. Use multiple strategies to enhance mentee understanding across diverse disciplinary perspectives
