Bio: Tovo received his PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology in 2006 from the Universite Louis Pasteur in Strasbourg, France. During his graduate work, Tovo studied platelet GPIb-V-IX receptor signaling using cell lines and cell penetrating peptides. He completed his post-doctoral training at University of California, San Francisco in Prof. Shaun Coughlin's laboratory, where his research focused Tissue Factor and coagulation Factor XI contribution to hemostasis/thrombosis, inflammation and obesity. This work resulted in the development of novel anti-FXIa antithrombotic biologics in collaboration with CTI-Pfizer. After his postdoctoral training, Tovo joined Cerus Corporation first as a Senior Scientist then as an Associate director. He led design and verification studies for Cerus's blood product pathogen inactivation technology. In 2017, Tovo joined Bayer in San Francisco Bay, first as a Staff Research Scientist and then as Hemophilia Disease Interception Unit Head. In this role he was responsible for the hemophilia discovery portfolio using small/large molecules and AAV approaches. In 2020, Tovo started at Roche as the Rare Blood Disorders Discovery Area Leader and Strategy team co-lead. He is responsible for the discovery strategy and portfolio, covering hemophilia, sickle cell disease and beta thalassemia using small/large molecules and curative approaches.
