In this workshop, participants will learn how to conceive, organize and write a background section or rationale for a research proposal. The purpose of this section in most applications is to convince reviewers that the research to be carried out is important and will have a meaningful impact. After an overview, discussion of key principles, and a detailed example, participants will complete a small group exercise.
