AdvantageCLE Tennis and Education is a non-profit organization that offers an afterschool program to Cleveland’s youth. Kids from grades 1-5 can participate in tutoring sessions in literacy intervention, wellness, homework help, and tennis instruction. Their goal is to empower students to reach their full potential on the court and in the classroom. Through CWRU SOM, we hope to form a connection between medical students and these kids to help foster their growth through various volunteering opportunities.

Case Western Reserve University’s Anatomy Camp is an immersive educational program run by medical student volunteers. Anatomy Camp was designed with the primary goal of igniting curiosity and passion for STEM, more specifically in the field of medicine, among students from underserved middle and high schools in Cleveland, Ohio. We aim to expose students to various aspects of medicine including physical diagnosis, simulated patient interviewing, and anatomy of the human body through a virtual reality technology called HoloLens. We also inspire and encourage students to pursue careers in healthcare, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds, provide hands-on learning opportunities and access to educational resources that may be limited in their regular school settings, and foster mentorship relationships between the high school students and medical student volunteers.

When you volunteer for Anatomy Camp, you gain hands-on teaching experience in a fun environment. You'll have the chance to share your knowledge and passion for medicine with middle and high school students. This enhances the teaching skills you will one day use for patients and can deepen your own understanding of medical concepts.

Anatomy Camp is also an opportunity to engage in outreach efforts for underprivileged schools, helping to inspire the next diverse generation of medical professionals and STEM enthusiasts. Volunteers get to make a real impact in the community.

Volunteers also get the opportunity to briefly engage in public speaking, answering questions about medical school life. Participating in the educational sessions can improve your communication skills and boost your confidence, preparing you for future patient interactions and professional presentations.

We send out regular event reminders and detailed information about upcoming events to ensure volunteers never miss an opportunity to participate.

When you volunteer, you will engage in:
Mock IQ Sessions: Interactive sessions where students work through clinical cases, promoting critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Hololens/Anatomy Sessions: Utilizing our virtual reality platform to provide a hands-on learning experience about human anatomy and physiology. (The kids love this!!)
Q&A Sessions (Med Students on Truth Serum): An informal and candid discussion where medical students answer questions about their daily lives and experiences in medical school.

We host bimonthly book club meetings where members can discuss selected reads and have the opportunity to suggest and vote on future book choices. In addition, we organize “Coffee and Read” events, which are casual gatherings that combine conversation, relaxation, and reading time.

Our goal is to connect medical students through rock climbing in a fun, inclusive, and welcoming environment. We organize bouldering and top-rope activities at local climbing gyms. No climbing experience is required to participate and we encourage students of all skill levels to join us on our climbing outings.

Members of our club will gain awareness of and access to rock climbing as a way of movement and a source of community. Our club will break down barriers to climbing (such as cost and equipment) through structured events at indoor climbing gyms and local outdoor crags. Case Med Pride will aim to foster community among LGBTQ+ individuals associated with the Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) School of Medicine (SOM). We will serve as advocates for social change within our SOM and our greater communities. We will offer educational seminars and lectures to further educate all members of the medical community in treating their eventual gender and sexual minority patients.
Some of these events and projects will include:
- Advocate initiatives for sociopolitical change within CWRU, Cuyahoga County, the State
of Ohio, and the nation.
- Social events to foster community among all medical students associated with CWRU
SOM or the Lerner College of Medicine.
- Lectures by medical providers on topics relevant to LGBTQ+ health.

Our mission is to empower individuals with the knowledge, tools, and resources they need to make informed decisions, while fostering a compassionate and non-judgmental environment that supports prevention, education, and access to critical services.

CaseMed Harm Reduction (CMHR) offers its members the opportunity to engage in community outreach, educational workshops, and collaborative initiatives focused on harm reduction and public health. Members can participate in service events such as naloxone distribution training, educational campaigns about substance use, and partnerships with local organizations addressing high-risk behaviors.

Cleveland Safety-Net Collective is a medical student-led organization focused on strengthening Cleveland’s safety-net healthcare system through a close partnership with the Salaam Clinic, a free clinic serving uninsured communities, predominantly refugees and immigrants. The clinic is excited to provide CWRU SOM medical students a unique opportunity to work directly with these underserved patient populations through patient interviewing, diagnostic procedures/exams, and contributing to treatment plans under the guidance of supervising physicians.

The Salaam Clinic, which is just a few blocks from the Health Education Campus, will offer students immersive, hands-on experiences through direct clinical encounters, virtual patient visits, pop-up clinics, homeless shelter volunteering, and a program focused on patient follow-up and retention after visits. Members can also support ongoing community service efforts such as meal distributions, blanket drives, and interfaith gatherings.

In addition to providing medical students with early, hands-on clinical experience, this organization is deeply committed to community outreach and expanding patient capacity to ensure that marginalized populations, particularly refugees and immigrant communities, have access to the care they need. This is an opportunity for medical students to learn culturally sensitive care, health equity, and the importance of sustained community engagement. It is an ideal service opportunity for students who want to grow as compassionate, community-centered physicians.

Our mission is to explore various genres in medical literature to strengthen and challenge our perspectives about medicine and healthcare systems while also enjoying reading for reading’s sake. Our club will feature a diverse array of medically-centered genres such as biographies, autobiographies, historicals, and contemporary fiction/non-fiction novels.

Membership Benefits
We host our monthly roundtable discussions about the Book of the Month, alongside some informal group-read sessions in which people can discuss (and snack!) as they read. We will announce the Book of the Month at the end of the previous month and send out polls to gauge interest in different genres/books and get a sense of everyone's reading timeline. We will also send out optional surveys to ask readers what they think about the books and how they could contribute to medical education.

The Financial Wellness in Medicine Student Interest Group empowers medical students with the knowledge, skills, and resources to navigate the financial realities of a medical career, enabling future physicians to focus on delivering compassionate, high-quality patient care without the burden of financial stress.

Our purpose is to support and cultivate community among the CWRU SOM first-generation students. Our goal is to support and uplift our first-gen students while building equitable access to resources and mentorship. In doing so, we will encourage our future First Gen in Med physicians to lean on their strengths and perspectives to better the delivery of medicine.
