Dr. Eric Arndt grew up in Mooresville, NC, before coming to Case in 2005 for undergrad. He studied polymer science and engineering, conducting research in the laboratory of Dr. David Schiraldi in the Department of Macromolecular Science and Engineering for four years, and graduated with a B.S.E. in Polymer Science and Engineering in 2009. While at Case, he was also very active in the Symphonic Winds, Wind Ensemble, and Case Orchestra. After Case, Eric moved to MIT for his Ph.D. in the Program in Polymer Science and Technology (now, Program in Polymers and Soft Matter). Eric conducted research in the laboratory of Dr. Christine Ortiz, studying biological structural materials and the explosive defense mechanism of bombardier beetles. Eric received his Ph.D. in 2015.
Following graduate school, Eric worked at 3D printing startup Formlabs from 2015-2019 developing materials for 3D printing. During that time Formlabs grew from ~70 to 600 employees and reached “Unicorn” status with a valuation of $1B. Eric commercialized several 3D printing materials for dental, prototyping, and footwear applications, provided technical leadership on Formlabs’ collaboration with New Balance, and assisted the development of the Form 2, Form 3, Form 3L, and Fuse 1 3D printers.
Eric left Formlabs in December 2019 to join a new Series Seed startup, Quadratic 3D, which was founded out of the laboratory of Dr. Daniel Congreve, then at Harvard’s Rowland Institute and currently an Assistant Professor at Stanford, to develop high throughput volumetric 3D printing for industrial mass production. Eric is the Senior Materials Engineer at Quadratic 3D, leading development of 3D printing materials and contributing technical expertise to printer hardware and software development.
