The Weatherhead School of Management will be offering more summer courses than ever before this year!

The summer term is a great opportunity to catch up or get ahead. Complete prerequisites over the summer and start taking major courses in the Fall. Students can also complete 80% of the
Business Management minor over the summer with the final course during the Fall semester.

Courses of note include:

MGMT 205: Essentials of Personal Finance (1.5. cr) Mastering one’s personal finances can unlock incredible life possibilities – and doesn’t require being a business expert! We have built a practical, fun way to build fundamental knowledge and skills needed to make wise financial decisions (aka “life hacks”) and set up a long-term plan. We will cover budgets & saving, investing, and how to secure credit & control debt. Then, we will explore the famous “risk management tools” that successful people use to build a more resilient life – such as insurance, personal taxation, retirement planning, and estate planning.

  • When: Online synchronous, 4 weeks June 2 - July 1, MWTh: 3:00pm - 4:25pm
  • Prerequisites: none
  • Who should take this course: All CWRU students (+ fulfills UGER Wellness requirement)

MGMT 395: Advanced Seminar - Leading with Purpose: Strategies for Intentional Impact (1 cr): How do leaders achieve their goals and leave a lasting impact? Truly impactful leadership requires more than strategy—it demands clarity of purpose, introspection, and intentional action. In this course, students will explore the intersection of leadership, personal, and organizational development, while learning how to effectively communicate, plan, and make better decisions. The instructor, a world-famous leadership expert, will work with students to help them discover how to lead from within—intentionally, authentically, and with purpose.

Students can elect a type of project from a portfolio of tracks: Data Analytics, Coding for Data, Digital Marketing, and Career Discovery. The experience includes video lessons, live online classes, and completing important projects for iconic organizations like Intel, L’Oreal, The Grammys, and charity:water. Students may elect AI-powered work, co-designed with our brand partners and OpenAI and earn (if successful) an ‘AI Skills’ digital credential for LinkedIn.

ECON 346/446: Economic Perspectives (3 cr): Classical Liberal thinking has been all but lost on American college campuses where 70 percent of faculty say they are left leaning, and 90 percent are registered Democrats. This shift has left students without exposure to the frameworks and insights that are transforming public policy in America today. This course equips students with an understanding of classical liberal thinking by exposing them to the works Milton Friedman, Friedrich Hayek, Ayn Rand, Thomas Sowell and others, as well as analyses from think tanks like the Heritage Foundation, Cato Institute, American Enterprise Institute (AEI), Hoover Institution, and Mercatus Center. By the end of the term, students will (1) Apply core economic reasoning to evaluate contemporary public policy issues and (2) Explain conservative/libertarian perspectives on the major issues today.
  • When: Online synchronous, 4 weeks, June 2 - July 1, MTWTh: 6:00pm - 8:00pm
  • Prerequisites: None
  • Who should take this course: All CWRU students seeking to challenge conventional thinking about economics
