Semester Serves volunteers will be paired to work with a group of elementary-age youth (1st-5th grade) a support to the group's teacher, coaching students on either their creative writing or soccer skills (depending on the volunteer's experience/interests and site needs) through an after school program with America SCORES at Wade Park School. Poetry volunteers are not required to be experts in creative writing but should have strong English grammar and writing skills and an enthusiasm for helping the youth with their pieces. Soccer volunteers should have experience playing at the high-school level. The program takes place every Wednesday from 2:30 to 4:15 p.m., which includes transportation time. This site requires a commitment of one semester. Transportation is provided in the CCEL van by the Semester Serves student leader.

The specific dates of the program will be as follows: 9/18, 9/25, 10/2, 10/9, 10/16, 10/23, 10/30, & 11/6.

While not required to attend, volunteers are encouraged if available to help with volunteer operations during America SCORES' "Fall Frenzy" Friday, September 20 and/or the "Poetry SLAM" on Friday, November 1.

Accessibility: CCEL is committed to providing all students with opportunities to take full advantage of our programs. Our staff recognizes that students with documented disabilities may require reasonable accommodations in order to achieve this objective. If you are interested in taking part in a specific project but have questions related to accommodations and/or the accessibility of a site, please contact the office of Disability Resources (216.368.5230 or disability@case.edu), and they will work with a representative from our office to answer your questions.
