Hello Magnolia Residents,
We hope that you enjoyed a relaxing and/or productive Fall Break. The second half of the semester is a great time to reflect and restart your good health and safety habits.
Even if you let good habits lapse a bit in the flurry of midterms, consider this checklist to get back on track. A few weeks of healthy choices will pay off as you approach finals week.
-
Clean your room. You’ll be surprised how good you feel with a fresh room for a fresh start. Don’t forget to wash often-used things like bed sheets, your robe, and your fall jacket.
-
Get a full night’s sleep, around 7 or 8 hours. You’ll think better, really. Try going to bed a little earlier and getting up a little earlier.
-
Eat well. Try to increase fruits and vegetables and ease up a bit on fat and sugar.
-
Get moving. Especially as the weather gets colder, you might need to be more intentional about finding time to walk, run, or work out, outdoors or indoors. Check out workout space at the Wyant Center & Veale: http://athletics.case.edu/facilities/facility_hours
-
Get back into a routine. Use a planner and do your best to stick to it so you’re ahead of things when the big exams and papers come due later this month.
-
Take a break. Give yourself guilt-free breaks, even if it is just sitting still and breathing deeply. If you have trouble allowing yourself this, try signing up for a yoga or workout class so you have scheduled break time.
-
Invest in relationships. Work to be on good terms with your friends and roommates, and keep in touch with family. Remember that quality of contact is more important than quantity.
-
Ask for help. If you are struggling, get help now rather than wait until the discomfort forces you to act. You can find helpers in many offices. Don’t know where to start? Ask an RA or other advisor.
-
Remember to look out for others. You can’t solve other people’s problems, but you CAN help or get resources to support them. If you’re not sure what to do, talk it over with a campus helper. If there’s a chance someone might get hurt, call 216.368.3333 immediately.
-
Enjoy! Appreciate the small moments, revel in mini-victories, take advantage of opportunities, savor accomplishments, play, and give yourself credit for not just what you’ve done before, or what you will do, but for who you are here and now.
