FAQS and Information

FAQS

1. What does Firearms Club do?

We attend range trips, host bi-weekly club meetings, and arrange club and campus-wide events for club members and students.

2. What are the eligibility requirements?

Membership is open to all inexperienced and experienced shooters who are undergrad, grad, staff, faculty, and alumni who are currently attending or have attended CWRU, CIA, or CIM.

Additionally, to be a member, you must have a 2.5 GPA for the semester. Firearms club is a community here to help our members grow, but if a member is struggling academically, we want them to focus on doing everything they can to earn the best grades they can.

3. What do I get for being a member?

Members are granted exclusive privileges for their membership.

A member of Firearms club may attend range trips, have access to exclusive events like overnight trips to outdoor ranges, enter in raffles for exciting prizes, and receive a membership card that will grant them (and their families) discounts and special annual memberships at local ranges in the Cleveland area.

Members also have the opportunity to compete in marksmanship competitions, train at Parma Armory for a severely reduced price, receive free uniforms and merchandise from the club, and potentially receive a sponsorship if their marksmanship ability is superior. If a member is interested in expanding their marksmanship skills but may not want to compete, we will help them receive certifications through the NorthCoast Marksmanship Club at reduced prices, and help them find discounted classes to further their skills.

4. Are there any membership dues?

Yes. Funding from USG is unstable and frankly unreliable because we are funded on a semesterly basis. Additionally, we are expanding the type and number of activities that the Firearms club will be hosting.

Once activities resume to normal, we will be charging a onetime fee of $10 for a membership card with a $5 monthly fee for membership dues.

The membership card is yours to keep forever. The discounts will still be yours and you will still have access to the club and activities even as an alum. The $5 monthly fees help the club to operate and receive an additional stream of revenue that is more reliable than USG's funding.

If a member is studying abroad, taking a semester off, or will not physically be at Case Western for an indefinite time, they will not be required to pay dues during the months that they are away. If a member is having difficulty paying dues, we encourage them to contact the e-board so we may create a special and confidential payment plan (these will be created on a case-by-case basis). We truly want our members to feel like they are receiving what they put in, so expect many more thrilling opportunities, meetings, and events during the year!

5. Do members have any responsibilities?

Yes. Firearms club is a community of diverse students from various backgrounds joined together by our 2nd amendment rights. In order for our community to flourish, we need our members to be actively involved in our club. A member must accomplish or participate in the following:

  • Help with 1 of the 8 bake sales or grilled cheese nights a semester.
  • Attend 3 out of the 9 bi-weekly meetings.
  • Attend 1 small event for the semester for at least 20 minutes.

Members who attend over half of meetings, small events, or bake sales and grilled cheese nights will be rewarded with merchandise, gift cards, and other prizes. The most active member will be rewarded with an even greater prize.

6. I'm interested in the club, but I'm not sure if I want to be a member.

We're excited that you're thinking of joining us! All non-members who are interested in Firearms Club are encouraged to attend our bi-weekly meetings and campus-wide events. If there is anything that is still unclear, we encourage you to reach out to the e-board.

7. I know you allow inexperienced shooters, but I have never even held a firearm before. Are you sure I should still join?

Of course! You are not alone. Numerous members of the Firearms club were (and are) in the same situation as you. Before members can attend range trips, they must go to an interactive safety meeting. Once at the range, there will be safety instructors who will gladly help you learn how to safely operate a firearm. If you still feel underprepared, we will refer you to specific courses at local ranges and firearm certification organizations that will train you.

8. I'm an experienced shooter, is it still worth it for me to join?

Yes! We arrange members into groups based on experience. If you are experienced, you will have more reign to do as you please at the range. You will also be eligible to teach other members how to shoot. Additionally, if you would like to compete we will 100% back you and help you find competitions to compete in. Also, don't forget about other privileges you will receive as a member! (Look to question 3).

10. I'm an international student. Can I join?

Yes! All international students may join. International students physically residing in the US are permitted to shoot at the range. Just make sure you bring an ID  that shows your date of birth, name, and picture!

11. I'm not 18 years old yet. Can I join?

Yes! Before you are permitted to go to the range, you will need to get your parents signature (inked or electronic) on a permission form. You will need to request this form from us and hand it in to the club president or secretary either before attending the range, or at the range.

12. Do I have to sign any forms?

The only forms you will have to sign will be for any off campus events and range trips. In the likelihood that you get hurt, CWRU, CIA, CIM, Case Firearms club, the range, and members of the Case Firearms club will not be fiscally responsibile for any damages.

If you do not sign these forms you will not be able to attend the range trips or off campus events.

13. Is this a political organization?

No, we are not political. We do not endorse any political party, candidate, or public figure. We encourage all members of various political backgrounds to join our club.

Some may believe firearms to be an inherently political issue, however, club members will not be exposed to the politics surrounding firearms if they do not wish to be. We may host events, debates, Q and As, or speakers to further firearm education and safety. These speakers may belong to a certain political party, but that does not mean we endorse their party's views. We encourage the exchange of free ideas and thought, and encourage all voices to be heard wherever they may be on the political spectrum.
