In Los Angeles, a crew of armed thieves led by master criminal Neil McCauley is hitting serious targets. When one of their operations goes south, LAPD detective Vincent Hanna is put on the trail. At the expense of his private life, Hanna becomes obsessed with bringing McCauley down. The two find a mutual respect, even as they try to thwart each other's plans.
