In the midst of a war with France, the frail Queen Anne assumes the throne and has her close friend Lady Sarah govern the country. Sarah also tends to the queen's poor health but as the politics of war begin to consume more of her time, the new servant Abigail fills in as the queen's companion and vies to return to her aristocratic roots.
