Fall Convocation is the formal celebration that opens each new academic year at Case Western Reserve University. The event includes recognition of our newest Distinguished University Professors and a keynote address from the Elaine G. Hadden Distinguished Visiting Author, author of the university's common read.

Convocation is followed by a complimentary reception and book signing.

The event is free and open to all. Online registration requested.

Sarah Kay is a poet, performer, and educator who has performed her poetry in venues across the United States and the world, using the power of spoken word to inspire creativity and self-empowerment in others. Her talk at the 2011 TED conference, which garnered two standing ovations, has since been seen over eleven million times online.

Kay is the founder and co-director of Project VOICE, an organization that uses spoken word poetry as a literacy and empowerment tool. Her bestselling books of poetry include B, which was ranked the number one poetry title on Amazon.com, The Type, and her newest release All Our Wild Wonder. Her 2014 collection of poetry, No Matter the Wreckage, has been chosen as Case Western Reserve University’s 2018 common reading.
