New Spring Digital Scholarship Workshops at KSL
Through a series of hands-on workshops presented by the Digital Scholarship Team at Kelvin Smith Library, learn how open-source digital tools allow you to explore research in new ways and advance the creation and communication of your scholarship. All workshops are held at Kelvin Smith Library and are open to students, faculty, and staff from any department. Workshops are free to attend and do not require prior subject-matter knowledge, with the exception of one advanced R workshop. RTA Pass: pick up your Spring Sticker!
Starting in the 2024-2025 academic year, all graduate and professional students will have year-round access to the RTA transit system for a discounted rate. For the 2024-2025 academic year, rates are $65 for the Fall Semester and $65 for the Spring Semester. Summers are included at no additional cost.
To pick up your RTA pass sticker for the Spring Semester, please go to your school/college administration (Grad Studies Office) OR the Student Access Services desk at the Tinkham Veale University Center (11038 Bellflower Road, Cleveland, Ohio 44106). You must be registered for spring classes and bring your CWRU Student ID so you can pick up your pass sticker.
Deadline for RTA Waiver for Online Students: January 24th, 2025
Graduate and Professional students can enjoy access to any bus or train operated by the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA). The program, Universal Pass (U-Pass), enables students to ride the RTA anywhere, at any time, and is not limited to only University-related activities. This initiative is made available to students based on a negotiated fee of $65, which is automatically billed each semester to the students' bursar account.
During the Spring 2024 semester, Graduate Student Council (GSC) worked with student government presidents from each school as well as GSC General Assembly representatives to organize the vote on the RTA U-Pass for public transportation. These student leaders voted for an “all-in” RTA pass for graduate and professional students (with a few exceptions). As of Summer 2024, the Graduate Student Council negotiated to include Summer RTA passes free of charge for graduate and professional students in the latest RTA contract.
The “all-in” approach allows CWRU students to be charged a reduced price while providing unlimited access to public transportation in the Cleveland area. An RTA Transportation Fee totaling $65 will be automatically billed each semester in the 2024-2025 school year to a student’s financial account in the Student Information System (SIS).
For students assessed an RTA fee who are enrolled in an online degree program or believe their program meets this criterion, they may petition to waive the RTA fee each semester by completing the Campus Group form. The Spring 2025 waiver form must be completed by January 24th, 2025. Access Services will process the request in a timely manner and respond directly to the student.

GSC General Assembly (GA) Meeting
Do you want to get involved with the GSC? Know more about what's going on in other schools or with other graduate and professional students? Are you a GSC Representative for your school? Are you considering applying for the GSC Executive Board?
If yes, join us for our GSC General Assembly (GA) meetings! You will hear more about what we are up to, plans for the semester, and learn about how you can participate in supporting your school and colleagues.
Dinner is provided, and all students are welcome to attend. However, Graduate Student Council Representatives (Reps) are expected to attend.
The first GSC GA meeting of the Spring semester is on February 4, 6-7pm, at Adelbert Hall, Toepfer Room (second-floor conference room). The registration link will be available soon.
Please note that every GA meeting is scheduled for the first Tuesday of each month, 6-7pm. Dates for the Fall semester are February 4, March 4, April 1, and May 6.

UNIV401: College Teaching Preparation
UCITE and the School of Graduate Studies invite graduate students and postdocs who are planning a career in the Academy to sign up for UNIV401 - College Teaching Preparation, formerly known as "Advanced Professional Development for University Teaching." This zero-credit seminar is aimed at introducing students to the context and practice of teaching and learning in higher education. Topics will include, but are not limited to: Understanding by Design, writing measurable learning objectives, developing a course syllabus, and inclusive teaching. Participants will complete weekly readings and respond to a weekly journal/discussion board post.
Each student will be provided with the course textbook, courtesy of UCITE and Graduate Studies. If you are a graduate student, you can register for the Spring 2025 offering of this course on the Student Information System (SIS); postdocs need to reach out to gradstudies@case.edu to register.
