Library How To’s

In last month’s LA Newsletter you learned about KSL’s eJournals portal (4th link down), a place to look up the library’s full text periodical holdings. But what should you do if you can’t get the full text of an article directly from our online databases or the eJournals portal? You have two additional options in this case:
- Use the library catalog to run a title search on the name of the periodical to see if we have a print version in one of our Case Libraries. If so, you can go to that library and make a photocopy.
If there isn’t a print copy in the library collections, then your next option is to,
- Use Case Libraries Interlibrary Loan Services to request a free copy of the article online. If you don’t yet have an ILL account, you can sign up for one online from our library website.
Before using ILL, however, make sure to try all other access options first. If you submit an ILL request for an article copy we already have via Case Libraries, you’ll be directed back to that access option accordingly.
For a review of these steps, and other tips for using our library resources and services, check out our KSL Instruction Hub on Canvas.

What if there was an app for quickly gathering information about sources you use for research papers and projects? What if that same app also could automatically place source citations into your research papers in the proper citation format?
Interested? Then check out a free citation and research manager called Zotero. It’s easy to download and integrate into your favorite web browser and word processor, and has many other convenient features you’ll come to appreciate. For a quick overview of Zotero features, check out this guide from the KSL website.
