Details

Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) evolved from the "Day of Unity" in October 1981 observed by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. The intent was to connect advocates across the nation who were working to end violence against women and their children. The Day of Unity soon became an entire week devoted to a range of activities conducted at the local, state, and national levels. The activities conducted were as varied and diverse as the program sponsors but had common themes: mourning those who have died because of domestic violence, celebrating those who have survived, and connecting those who work to end violence.

It's On CWRU honors and recognizes DVAAM, adding a second "A" for Advocacy. Join us all month long to learn more about the movement, how to recognize violence, how to intervene, and what resources are available to you and your loved ones. Check back often to see new events being added!

Healthy Relationships Workshop

Too often we focus on the negatives in life, including risk factors for "bad" relationships. In this workshop we flip the script and talk about relationships from their strengths! We focus on a variety of relationships, not just sexual or romantic partners, and work through boundary setting, trust, communication, and the role power plays in relationships. Join us to learn more about how you can strengthen your relationships and improve your communication skills.

Content Warning: Although this workshop does focus on the healthy aspects of relationships we do discuss various topics that may be impactful to some participants. Topics include harassment, stalking, sexual harassment and/or abuse. We do review resources and support for anyone impacted by these topics, and we encourage you to be aware of your needs and space when attending this workshop.

Is it really domestic violence? A Workshop with the Journey Center for Safety and Healing

Join It's On CWRU and the Journey Center for Safety and Healing to learn more about Domestic Violence and how to support individuals experiencing Domestic Violence.

Is it really domestic violence?

Domestic violence is something that would never happen to me… but what happens when it does? Unhealthy or abusive relationships are more than just physical abuse and aren't always as easy to see as we think. So, what happens when we don't see the red flags of unhealthy or abusive relationships? How would you know if you, or someone you cared about, was in an unhealthy or abusive relationship?
