Hiroyuki Fujita, Ph.D., D.Sc.h.c., an industrialist and innovator from Japan, is the founder and
CEO of Quality Electrodynamics (QED) in Cleveland, Ohio. Driven by a vision to revolutionize
medical imaging through cutting-edge technology, Fujita transformed QED into a global leader
in the development and manufacturing of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment.
In 2019, Canon Inc. acquired QED, appointing Fujita as Chief Technology Officer of the CT-MR
Division at Canon Medical Systems Corporation. Then, in 2022, Fujita was also named Chairman
of Canon Healthcare USA, Inc. Additionally, Fujita serves as an External Independent Director on
the Boards of Daiichi Sankyo, a global pharmaceutical company, and American Regent, Inc.
After studying at Waseda University in Tokyo, Fujita earned his B.A. in Physics and Mathematics
from Monmouth College and his Ph.D. in Physics from Case Western Reserve University
(CWRU). Fujita is an adjunct full professor in the Physics and Radiology Departments at CWRU,
has authored 17 patents, and has published over 40 peer-reviewed scientific papers and
abstracts. He serves as a member of the Japan Prize Nomination System. In 2025, Fujita
received his Honorary Doctor of Science degree from Waseda University.
Fujita is an active member of various national and international boards across multiple sectors.
He was the former Chairman of the Board of Trustees at The Ohio State University (OSU) and
currently serves on the OSU Wexner Medical Center Board. Additionally, he holds leadership
roles at Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest and Mentor Hospitals, serving as Chairman of the Board of
Trustees. He is also a member of The Cleveland Orchestra's Board of Trustees and a member of
the Board of Governors at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University
in Japan, as well as a member of the OIST Foundation's Board.
As the inaugural Honorary Consul of Japan in Cleveland, Fujita is deeply involved in fostering
U.S.-Japan relations and is a member of the U.S.-Japan Council’s Board of Councilors and, in
August 2025, received Japan’s Foreign Minister’s Appreciation from Foreign Minister Takeshi
Iwaya for Fujita’s contributions in bridging the bilateral academic, industrial, and governmental
partnerships between Ohio and Japan. He also serves on the boards of the Cleveland Council on
World Affairs, the Greater Cleveland Partnership, and as a Trustee of The Kelvin and Eleanor
Smith Foundation. Additionally, Fujita serves as an Advisor to Japan Airport Terminal Co., Ltd.,
which manages Tokyo Haneda Airport.
Fujita, a frequent international speaker, authored two books: A Pathfinder (Shogakukan, 2013)
and Fail Fast! Creating the Future by Learning Lessons from Our Mistakes (Wedge, Tokyo, 2021).
He also contributed a monthly editorial to Wedge Magazine, with approximately 124,000 copies
distributed monthly in Japan from May 2017 to August 2020. In January 2023, the Office of the
Prime Minister of Japan released a biography video of Fujita.

Fujita also served two terms on the U.S. Manufacturing Council during the Obama
Administration, where he was actively involved in the U.S. Tax and Export Subcommittee and
co-chaired the Energy Policy Subcommittee.
