The city of Amsterdam has a rich Jewish history, starting at the end of the sixteenth century, with the arrival of the first group of Sephardic Jews. The lecture will discuss Jewish cultural heritage from the Dutch capital, including books, ritual objects and synagogues, as well as monuments from the newly developed National Holocaust Museum. Recently, Amsterdam has also hit the news with a number of harsh outbursts of antisemitism. The lecture will include the current Jewish population’s struggle in the Netherlands, and the most recent developments in light of current events.
