How To think[box]: Desk Organizer

Join us at think[box] as we walk visitors through making a desk organizer during our How to Think[box]: Desk Organizer Open House event!

Check in on the 2nd Floor of Sears think[box] to sign in and receive your materials. Then head up to the 3rd or 4th floors where technicians will show you how to operate the machinery to create the perfect desk organizer!

Please plan on arriving before 2 pm as we will stop distributing materials after 2 pm. However, guests will still be able to work until the 3 pm end time. No prior experience is required to participate in this event. 

We encourage EVERYONE to participate in this event. However, if you are not a CWRU affiliate, please make sure to fill out this Member Registration Form before the event. If you are bringing a minor (person under the age of 18) please have a parent fill out a Minor Registration Form before attending the event. Please note that minor's under the age of 14 will not be able to participate in the 4th floor portion of the event. However, we will have premade desk organizers that can be decorated for all ages to enjoy.

THE PROJECT
The organizer will have two components:

1.  A lasercut base with a 3" x 3" storage compartment. You can also add designs and custom text to personalize your base! the compartment is perfect for sticky notes, paperclips, USB drives, or any other desk clutter.
2. A standing holder for pens/pencils that will be made using the table saw and drill press on the Fabrication (4th) floor. 

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:
By the end of this program you will learn how to create "finger joints" or interlocking wedges of wood, in two ways: through laser cutting and by using a table saw. Moreover, guests will learn about the design process and gain familiarity with the Prototyping (3rd) and Fabrication (4th) floors of think[box].
