About Us

Our mission is to promote community and the cultural identity of underrepresented minorities (URM) students and faculty in the BME department, provide mentorship at all levels, bolster recruitment efforts, and engage in outreach efforts within the greater Cleveland community.









Members Benefits

Membership is open to all graduate students in the Biomedical Engineering Department at Case Western Reserve University, specifically those interested in the mission statement of the organization, as well as URM and allies in the BME department. All members will be instated by requesting that they themselves be added to our email list by one of the executive board members. All members are encouraged to attend any and all events sponsored by UMBE, which include general body meetings, presentations, high school and graduate student mentoring programs, and decompression sessions. Members are also allowed and encouraged to speak their mind openly about controversial topics in a productive way that furthers the mission of the organization. All members must be an active member of UMBE for at least one year to be considered for the roles of President, Vice President, Resource Chair, Outreach Chair, Professional Development Chair, and Treasurer. Upon joining, members are encouraged to take a survey regarding ethnicity, race, socioeconomic background to be used as information about the group for the department. Any member is allowed to opt out of completing this survey.
