Join us Feb. 24 at 4 pm on floor 6 of think[box] as part of the CWRU Entrepreneurship Series for a Roundtable Discussion with Stefan Strein, Chief Investment Officer of Cleveland Clinic and Tim Milanich, Chief Investment Officer of CWRU. Stefan and Tim will discuss career journeys, entrepreneurship, experience with venture capital, and how institutional investors and endowments such as universities and hospitals access venture capital as an asset class.

The conversation will be facilitated by CWRU student Prithik Karthikeyan BS, Computer Science and Finance (‘22).

Stefan joined the Cleveland Clinic in 2015 in the new role of Chief Investment Officer. He has over two decades of investment experience, including the management of diversified endowment portfolios and portfolios of direct investments. He is responsible for the strategic direction and investment management of the Clinic’s investible financial assets, which includes the long-term investment portfolio, a defined benefit pension fund, and a captive insurance fund.



Prior to joining the Cleveland Clinic, Stefan was the Vice President and Chief Investment Officer of The Annie E. Casey Foundation, a national private philanthropic organization he served for ten years. Earlier in his career, Stefan was a member of the general partner in two early stage venture capital firms and worked in commercialization and licensing of university-developed technology.



He is an active volunteer and currently serves on the serves on the Investment Committees of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America and the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System. Stefan holds an undergraduate degree from Washington College and a graduate degree from Johns Hopkins University.

Tim Milanich joined Case Western Reserve University's investment office in 2007 as Director of Private investments and became Chief Investment Officer in 2018. Tim is responsible for all day-to-day investment management decisions. Prior to Case Western Reserve University, he was with National City Bank's Private Client Group, where he was responsible for identifying, selecting and monitoring both traditional and alternative managers for investment by National City's clients.



Prior to National City, Tim worked as an investment analyst with Parkwood Corporation -- a family office located in Cleveland. At Parkwood, Tim evaluated prospective managers across all asset classes, oversaw existing managers and formulated investment recommendations to the chief investment officer. He also has experience as a junior portfolio manager in New York with Citigroup Asset Management. Tim holds both his Bachelor of Science degree and Master of Business Administration degree in finance from Fordham University.



Tim is currently serving on the St. Luke's Foundation Board of Trustees.
