2025 was a big year for married couple Percival Everett and Danzy Senna, who share not only a vocation, but also the parenting of two children. In April, Senna’s novel Colored Television received the Anisfield-Wolf Book Award (she’ll attend the September ceremony in Cleveland); a few weeks later, Everett took home the Pulitzer Prize for fiction for James. We’ll read both novels and discuss their individual merits, but we’ll also explore the ways Senna and Everett influenced each other’s style, interests, and worldview. If you’re often curious about the story behind the story, this is definitely the class for you.
