🌱 Wellness Wednesday
📣 National Hazing Prevention Week Newsletter
This week, we’re focusing on National Hazing Prevention Week. It’s a time to raise awareness, educate, and build a stronger, safer community where belonging is never tied to harmful practices. Together, we can change the culture, support one another, and commit to positive traditions.
🌟 Feature Event
This week’s feature event takes place on Thursday, Sept. 25 at 4:30 p.m. in Eldred Hall Theater, where I will be speaking. Attendees will receive free, limited-edition t-shirts, and first-year students can earn Explore credit by participating.
Weekly Wellness Question
What’s one way you can safely speak up or support a peer if you notice hazing behavior on campus?
Hazing often hides behind tradition or bonding rituals, but it can cause real harm. Learn the signs:
Physical or mental stress disguised as “team-building.”
Secrecy or pressure to stay silent.
Risky activities framed as “proving loyalty.”
Tip: If it feels unsafe, degrading, or isolating—it’s hazing.
Building Positive Traditions ✨
We don’t need hazing to form strong bonds. Instead, try:
Service projects: give back to the community together.
Wellness events: group workouts, yoga, or mindfulness sessions.
Team challenges: trivia nights, scavenger hunts, or volunteer shifts.
These build trust and connection without harm.
✋ Take the Pledge to Prevent Hazing
Throughout the week, you’ll notice yard signs around campus raising awareness about hazing prevention. On Friday, Sept. 26, stop by the Spirit Wall or TVUC from 9 a.m.–3 p.m. to sign the Pledge to Prevent Hazing and show your commitment to a safer CWRU community. Can’t make it in person? You can also sign the pledge online.
