Checking Out of Your Room

There are two ways to check out of your room: By Appointment or Express Checkout

By AppointmentInformation on how to sign up for a checkout appointment will be sent out by your RCD. The staff will review and document changes in the condition of your room with you. A complete checkout requires:

  • Making an appointment 24 hours in advance
  • Cleaning and returning your room to its original condition
  • Completing your room condition report and turning in your key/key card to a staff member
  • Completely vacating your room by Friday, May 10 at 3 p.m. or by an approved extension date

Express Checkout: Express Checkout allows you to conveniently drop off your keys/key card, acknowledging that you accept the condition of your room as inventoried by a Residence Life staff member in your absence. Room condition reports and checkouts will be completed within 24 hours of the student's departure. Once you have completely moved out of your room and your room is cleaned and left better than you found it, insert your keys/key card into the Express Checkout envelope and drop it in the Express Checkout box located in the lobby of your residence hall. Express Checkout envelopes are available by the Express Checkout boxes.

For buildings with no assigned keys, you need to complete an Express Checkout Card (located by the express checkout box) and return it to the box upon leaving.

Euclid 115 Residents: Please follow the checkout process outlined by your Residential Community Director (separate e-mail).

If you do not complete all parts of the checkout process you may be assessed a $100 improper checkout fee, $96 for each key not returned, $10 for each key card not returned, plus any damage identified in your room and/or suite/apartment.

Damage and Cleaning Charges

The Offices of University Housing and Residence Life reserve the right to conduct a final check of all rooms and suites/apartments after residents have checked out to assess additional damages. If damages are assessed to your room, suite or apartment, you will be sent an email indicating the nature and amount of the damages, as well as the appeal procedure for contesting charges. This email will be sent to your Case email account and is the only notification you will receive about damages.

Bike Removal Notice

All bikes must be removed from the buildings and outside residential areas no later than Monday, May 20. Any bikes left after this time will be discarded! Students staying for summer housing must get a orange tag from the area offices to put on their bike to avoid it being discarded.

Moving Into Summer Housing

Applications for summer student housing can be submitted online HERE!. Assignments will be made at the end of April and continue on a rolling basis. Residents in spring transition stay in their current spring assignment until they move into their summer assignment, beginning Thursday, May 23 through 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 25 once your room becomes available. Residents are responsible for the proper checkout of their current assignment. For detailed information about summer housing and move-in dates, please visit: http://housing.case.edu/summer

REScycle

REScycle

Residents will have the opportunity to donate unwanted items to a local charity. Look for the boxes in every residence hall lobby, beginning on April 29. Students can donate the following:

Large Boxes: clothing, books, working appliances, carpet and school supplies.

Small Boxes: unused/unopened personal care products and non-perishable food items (unopened canned/packaged food).

Anything that is broken or unusable should be disposed of properly. Be sure to see if any part of it can be recycled! To donate large items such as furniture or refrigerator, please submit a maintenance request between April 29-May 20, and it will be removed from your room (put #RESCycle in the comments section).

Cleaning and Maintenance

Trash bags will be provided in each building lobby. Please clean up any trash left in your room, take trash out to the dumpsters, and clean out your residence hall common refrigerator. Students will be assessed a damage fee to discard carpet, non-university furniture, or if a room or suite/apartment requires extra cleaning. Charges will be added directly to your account. Recycling bins should be used for paper waste, glass, cans and plastic. During finals week dumpsters will be located throughout the North and South Residential Village.

Email Communication

Because the university relies heavily on email communications, you should also arrange to forward your email if you will not have access to your Case account. Log in to webmail.case.edu and click on "Forwarding" under mail settings to set up your Case email to forward to another address.

Mail Service & Packages

The area office will continue to log mail and packages while you are living on campus. After you move out, mail and packages will be forwarded to either or your permanent address in SIS or you can enter a forwarding address online at http://housing.case.edu/myhousing. If you would like your mail forwarded to your permanent address, we recommend that you verify that the address we have is correct. If you are not sure of your summer address or it changes over the course of the summer, you can also update your forwarding address from off campus.

Parking During Move-Out

Parking regulations will be enforced for the remainder of the semester, including final exam week and senior week. There is no end-of-the-semester refund for resident permits. Permits officially expire on Tuesday, May 21. More information about parking during move-out will be posted on our website as soon as it is confirmed.

Security

The potential for thefts and other security problems increases during finals and senior week as students are moving out. Remember that it is important to keep your room locked at all times and to never leave valuable personal belongings unattended in your car or room. It is important to be continually aware of the need to be security conscious during this time. Report all suspicious behavior to the Case Police and Security at 368.3333 and follow up with a Residence Life staff member.
