CWRU Participates w/226 Universities Around World to Rally for Iran
In an historic event on Wednesday afternoon, CWRU was able to participate with 226 other universities around the world in a rally spotlighting Iran. Two CWRU doctoral students, Ghazaal Tahmasebi (neuroscience) & Payam Fadaei (mechanical engineering) hosted this event through Iranian Scholars for Liberty to raise awareness of Iranian women demanding their freedom and the continued tragedies following protests to the murder of Mahsa Amini by Iranian morality police enforcing their religious laws regarding hijabs.
For those who haven't paid as much attention yet, Ghazaal & Payam shared a lot of content through videos, to help all of us better understand the context of what's continuing to happen in this country.
As we are releasing this statement, many students and academics are being assaulted, detained, abducted, and held in unknown locations. Some of those detainees are being subjected to brutal interrogations, coerced confessions, torture, and rape and some are facing wrongful convictions, particularly death penalties issued by the Regime’s courts. The imminent risk to students’ lives and safety in Iran is extremely dire that requires immediate action and attention from all who have the freedom of speech.
Toward the end of the rally, participants were invited to sing together a two songs connecting Iranian people with one another and hope for a new day in Iran. Baraye & also the anthem of "Daughters of the land of sun."
Crafternoon in OMA!
Did you miss our last Wellness Wednesday "Crafternoon" this week? We had a blast painting and making framed art & bookmarks with dried flowers. Here's just a few of the creations that were made as we de-stressed in preparation for the end of the semester. Check OMA Instagram for more photos. Sponsored by University Health & Counseling (Mary Halm) and OMA (Jasmine Pace)
Help Us Decorate Eldred!
Eldred hall is opening as student programming space in January 2023. But it's grand opening featuring all the culturally themed spaces won't be until April 2023. We need your help decorating both the 4 culturally themed rooms (African American, Native American/Indigenous, Latine, and Pacific Islander) as well as the space throughout the building to help us reflect all of the beauty of our diverse CWRU campus community.
Look for more infiormation in January, but start planning now and then over your Winter break to create something to share wtih the entire CWRU community.
