GSC 102

Mandatory event for all CWRU graduate student organizations who wish to receive funding for the Spring 2024 semester, including new organizations. Please send at least 1 student org representative, preferably an e-board member. Important for all grad students: Health Insurance Survey

The Graduate Council for Arts and Sciences is offering this health insurance survey to graduate students in an effort to understand what works, what doesn't, and how we can better advocate for a quality health plan that meets all student needs.
Please complete this survey whether or not you use the student health insurance! It's important for us to understand why students may have chosen other insurance or be uninsured. KSL Trivia Night

KSL Game Night presents Trivia Night! Gather your friends and join us for our first spring semester event on Wednesday, January 31 from 7 to 9 p.m. in LL-06. Create a team of up to six people. Donation Drive for the Collaborative Practice Initiative - Opioid Taskforce

Group B11 for Collaborative Practice is holding a donation drive in support of Stella Maris, one of two stand-alone detox providers in Greater Cleveland. Stella Maris provides transformational chemical dependency and mental health treatment services to anyone regardless of race, religion, gender or ability to pay. Boxes will be located in the Health Education Campus Suite 160 and the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences. We are collecting new or gently used adult clothing for all genders Socks and undergarments (new only please) Jeans, pants, and shorts Shirts and sweatshirts Winter outerwear - jackets, hats, gloves, boots Professional attire New personal hygiene products for all genders Body wash Body lotion and hand cream Chapstick and lip balms Deodorant Dental care products Shampoo and conditioners Tampons and sanitary products.

 

Explore digital scholarship tools at library workshops this spring!

Kelvin Smith Library will offer a Digital Scholarship Workshop Series this spring to introduce participants to the powerful concepts, methods, and tools of digital scholarship that may not be covered in regular instruction. Digital scholarship partners will lead hands-on workshops that explore data, where to find it, what to do with it, and how to use it to your advantage in your academic pursuits in all areas. Human Trafficking Awareness Month Discussion Panel

Join the Mather Center for a moderated panel discussion with a multidisciplinary team of experts in human trafficking, featuring members of the CWRU Mandel School, CWRU School of Law, and the Collaborative to End Human Trafficking. This discussion is designed to educate the CWRU community in understanding what human trafficking can look like on a college campus and how to support campus community members who might be affected.

Tea & Chocolate Tasting

We are hosting a tea and chocolate tasting, where you can meet graduate and professional students throughout CWRU. You will have the opportunity to sample a variety of teas from around the world (green, oolong, and black), along with a selection of chocolates ranging from 40-90% cocoa.
The event will take place on Thursday, February 1, 3-5 pm, in the Graduate Research Commons (KSL, 2nd Floor). We hope this will be a great opportunity for you to meet and connect with other graduate and professional students in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.

UNIV 402C English Fluency & Presentation Skills

Students who wish to increase English fluency and presentation skills can enroll in the free, zero-credit UNIV 402C. The class meets twice a week in Tomlinson Hall on Tuesdays and Thursdays this semester, with one section meeting 2:30 to 3:45pm and the other 4:00 to 5:15pm. This course will help students increase their ability to speak English fluently with advanced vocabulary in formal settings, with an emphasis on presentation and communication skills. Enrollment is limited to ten (10) students per session and participants must register by Monday, January 29 (the day before the first class session). UNIV401: Advanced Professional Development for University Teaching

Enrolment has opened for the Spring iteration of UNIV401: Advanced Professional Development for University Teaching! This course is intended to provide participants with the chance to learn innovative, effective, and evidence-based teaching strategies that can be used as they transition into faculty positions in higher education. Taught by experienced instructors, the seminar offers participants the chance to learn effective teaching strategies useful across major disciplines. This 14-week seminar will take place on Tuesdays during the Spring semester, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Participants will be expected to read assigned literature, complete a weekly journal response, and participate fully in all discussions. This course is open to graduate students (register via SIS) and post-docs (https://case.edu/postdoc/prospective-new-postdocs/benefits - to register as a Post-Doc Auditor. Profiles of Inclusive Excellence Speaker Series

 

Dr. Camille Warner

Join us for an engaging installment of the Profiles of Inclusive Excellence Speaker Series, a collaborative effort by the African American Alumni Association, Case Western Reserve University's Office for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusive Engagement, and the African and African American Studies minor. Delve into insightful conversations highlighting faculty and staff work and research in this virtual one-on-one interview format hosted by Dr. Heather E. Burton, Associate Vice President, and Senior Director for Faculty and Institutional Diversity. Camille Beckette Warner, PhD, is a distinguished Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Case Western Reserve University's Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing. With over 25 years of experience, her expertise encompasses aging, medical sociology, intergenerational caregiving, and research methodology, focusing on social inequalities and justice throughout life's stages. Dr. Warner is deeply involved in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education and healthcare, contributing extensively to national committees and professional organizations like the American Sociological Association and the Gerontological Association of America. A respected scholar and advocate, she's presented scientific findings, led workshops on cultural diversity, and co-authored articles and book chapters on aging and healthcare. Dr. Warner's commitment extends beyond academia; she's dedicated to fostering inclusivity and belonging. As a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., she embodies leadership and progress in advancing diversity and equity in society.

The African American Alumni Association invites you to join them in launching Black History Month with a volunteering opportunity at the Greater Cleveland Food Bank on Saturday, February 3, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. EDT. Office of Interprofessional and Interdisciplinary Education and Research to launch Tuesday Connections

The Office of Interprofessional and Interdisciplinary Education and Research invites Case Western Reserve University students, faculty and staff to Tuesday Connections. The weekly community-building events aim to bring together members of the Health Education Campus of Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland Clinic, the wider university community and Northeast Ohio partners. Opportunities will vary each week.

  • Beginning Jan. 16: Take part in salon-style themed conversations on a variety of topics. 
  • Beginning Jan. 23: Join the Connecting Book Club to discuss one book for two months (in-person and remote options). The first book selection is The Art of Gathering by Priya Parker.
  • Beginning Feb. 6: Join the Collaborative Practice Journal Club for discussions on journal articles related to collaboration, human interactions and working together.

- The event is co-sponsored by GSC, but NO free drinks are provided - you can just take advantage of our co-sponsorship to get more affordable drinks!
- Registering on campusgroups is not needed - but you can do it if you want a reminder for the event in your calendar :)
- You will not need to show proof of being a graduate student. It's worry-free - just show up and get the deal!
