Message from Vice Dean Logio

I have good news to share! We recently heard from the Liaison Committee of Medical Education (LCME) about our reaccreditation visit in March 2025. We received FULL continuing accreditation for an eight-year term, the maximum allowable cycle! Our next survey visit is scheduled for the 2032-2033 academic year.

The process is multi-phased beginning with an 18-month self-study leading to the crafting of a 447-page document called the Data Collection Instrument with 91 appendices plus a 131-page Independent Student Analysis summarizing the student survey data. All of this was followed by a three-day visit by the Liaison Committee of Medical Education (LCME) Survey Team.

In March, our six LCME visitors had 21 meetings involving 155 SOM-connected individuals plus one tour of the HEC! We are grateful to the medical students, residents, faculty members and institutional leaders who made the commitment to share what a wonderful medical school we have here at Case Western Reserve University.

This is a tremendous accomplishment with many individuals contributing to our accreditation success.

Please join us in celebrating this milestone for our exceptional medical school!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Staff Spotlight

Bethany Berg, Learning Specialist

Meet Bethany Berg, SOM's newest Learning Specialist. She has been at Case for a little more than 2 months.

I grew up in Columbia Station, Ohio, and earned both my B.A. in Secondary English Education and M.A.T. in English from Miami University. I am currently completing my dissertation for a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction. Over the past 18 years, I’ve had the privilege of working as an educator in a variety of roles and learning environments.

I’m a new Learning Specialist in the School of Medicine. My goal is to help students grow as adaptive adult learners, developing habits that support their goals and wellbeing throughout their academic journey and beyond. I hope my work here empowers students to feel a sense of belonging. As a learning specialist, I seek to create a supportive environment where students can build confidence and discover strategies that foster academic growth, balance and wellbeing. My favorite part of my job so far is talking with students and working with the Learning Specialist team.

Fun fact: In Interlaken, Switzerland, I went skydiving, glacier climbing, canyon jumping and bungee jumping in about 24 hours. People just kept asking me to go and I kept saying sure! Before I knew it I was back-flipping out of a plane attached to a complete stranger and on the edge of a 300 foot drop off a canyon. What a time

In Cleveland, Bethany would like to see: more concerts and art openings! I know there are a lot of small venues and galleries that are excellent.

Early bird or a night owl? I'm in my early bird era for sure.

Inspiration: There are many places I find inspiration at different times, but overall I would say my husband. He seeks out the best in people and is just the best dad.
