Media Literacy for the Savvy Provost Scholar

Purpose
This session is intended to provide Scholars with an increased understanding of media literacy. The presentation will include a discussion about social media safety, "fair use" and plagiarism, and evaluating news sources for authenticity. The presentation wil also focus on the internet as a resource for preparing for the ACT and other standardized tests.
Objectives
At the end of the presentation, the Provost Scholars will be able to:
- Identify three ways to use the internet to improve medial literacy.
- Discuss two approaches to determine of a website is a legitimate source of information.
- Name three ways that the concept of media literacy is useful for you and your academic work.
- Identify three ways how media is both practical and challenging from a political, economic, and academic perspective.
